The Rise of Green Spaces in Inner Cities

This paper explores the relationship around race and green space to understand how environmental policies and practices in the past has and in our current moment continues to effect vulnerable populations. By focusing on the concepts of the green city and the dark city this work explores green space creation from the establishment of the National Parks to new park construction within cities. What is revealed is a pattern of displacement in which environmental endeavors trump the needs of low-income and people of color communities.
